In February, 2005, David went with the Guatemala Stove Project (GSP) as the
volunteer photographer. His images show the
land, the people and the culture of the Western Highlands of Guatemala.
The GSP is a Perth-based charity that
provides masonry stoves to impoverished Guatemalan Maya villagers. These
stoves replace un-vented indoor cooking fires, resulting in vastly improved
health for families.
Since its inception in 1999, the GSP, working with an
indigenous, non-profit group in Guatemala’s Western Highlands, has built
nearly 3000 stoves. That means 3000 women no longer risking blindness from
cooking for their families each day; whole families not filling their lungs
with toxic smoke; children not being burned; life expectancy increasing
